StartUp! is DOT's trademark enterprise program. It builds on the foundations of ReachUp! and focuses on developing the technology knowledge and business acumen of owners of small businesses that are developing, under stress or in transition in local communities. StartUp! encompasses entrepreneurship training, combined with access to finance through established partnerships, ongoing coaching and mentorship to support the growing number of young people who want to start or grow a business. StartUp! program provides participants with tools and training that helps to build successful and sustainable businesses by connecting them to local market opportunities, business services, and microfinance opportunities.

Program Model & Reach

DOT trains young Kenyan Interns to become business coaches and mentors in their communities, supporting emerging local entrepreneurs. DOT Kenya recruits and empowers young University graduates (Interns) strengthening their business, technology and coaching skills and deploy them to partner community based organizations.

StartUp! Is designed to drive the expansion of Youth-Led businesses in high growth sectors.

Who Benefits?

StartUp! reaches entrepreneurs in marginalized communities, including associations of women entrepreneurs who are connected to market opportunities, local business services and micro-finance. While delivering StartUp! in their communities, DOT Interns strengthen their own business and facilitation skills, improve their employability and polish their entrepreneurial self-confidence.

Impact at a glance

StartUp! is currently being delivered by 25 Kenyan interns.

 In its pilot phase, a total of 6,497 participants benefited from StartUp! program.
Over 70% of these participants have initiated livelihood projects.
