Last week DOT Kenya was privileged to host Digital Opportunity Trust's Community Manager, Anne Patterson, for a period of one week. Anne was visiting Kenya to collect some video footage and photos of DOT Interns, ReachUp! participants, alumni, and staff related their DOT experiences, in preparation for DOT's upcoming 10th anniversary celebrations.
On her first day, Anne attended an Intern regional meeting in Thika, where over 40 DOT Kenya Interns from across the Nairobi region were meeting to share their successes, experiences, and challenges in delivering the ReachUp! program. It was particularly exciting for the Interns and DOT staff alike to finally place a face to the 'virtual' Anne that they have met online and to freely interact with her on a one to one level, through interviews and experience sharing - not forgetting the endless group and individual photo shoots. On the consecutive day, Anne had a chance to attend a ReachUp! participant graduation ceremony at the Mukuru training centre in Nairobi, as well as a DOT ReachUp! class session at Nairobits facilitated by DOT Interns Philip Sande and Charity Karuiki.
Despite her tight schedule, we couldn't let Anne leave without a quick peek of some of our scenic country landscapes, and as such our DOT Kenya Field Officer, Monitoring and Evaluation, Ben Maiyo accompained Anne to Naivasha where she not only met and interviewed DOT Interns and participants but enjoyed a streak of fresh air in the breathtaking Rift Valley - not forgetting a brief interview with DOT Kenya Country Director Evans Njoro and Program Manager Robina Guchu at the Kenya National Museum.
To crown it all, we were lucky to have Anne attend the DOT Kenya Intern graduation ceremony that was graced by none other than Digital Opportunity Trust President and CEO Janet Longmore. This in particular was an amazing moment for the graduating Interns who each had a photo opportunity with both our Country Director Evans Njoro and DOT President and CEO Janet Longmore under the dazzling camera lights and work courtesy of Anne.
We could not have asked for a better time to have Anne with us than this and we look forward to hosting her again soon!
