Nairobi: 124 Nairobits Participants Graduate from the ReachUp! Program

On 30th March 2012 DOT Kenya Interns based in Nairobi Florence Kirai, Harold Macharia, Fatuma Ramadhan and Charity Kariuki organised a closing ceremony for the Participants who were undergoing the ReachUp! Program in Youth Initiative Kenya (YIKE), Diligent, Kibera Community Youth Program (KCYP) and Maji Mazuri respectively.

On 30th March 2012 DOT Kenya Interns based in Nairobi Florence Kirai, Harold Macharia, Fatuma Ramadhan and Charity Kariuki organised a closing ceremony for the Participants who were undergoing the ReachUp! Program in Youth Initiative Kenya (YIKE), Diligent, Kibera Community Youth Program (KCYP) and Maji Mazuri respectively.

The closing ceremony was held at the St.Teresa Church Hall from 10.00 am -2.00 p.m. The Master of ceremony was Kennedy Kioli -A Nairobits staff. In attendance were Nairobits Digital Design School's Staff, and its Partners including DOT represented by Nancy Okiri-the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Steven Ooko a Rift valley based Intern who was undergoing Communications job shadow at the DOT Kenya offices and Sylvia Rotich a Nairobi Based Intern. Also present were representatives of the various Community Based Organisations (CBO's).Samuel Kiriro-(Centre Co-ordinator) and John Kiarie-(Board Member) represented Maji Mazuri while John Mbungi represented YIKE.

The ceremony started with speeches from various people who congratulated the participants for completing the ReachUp! Program.DOT Kenya's Nancy Okiri spoke on behalf of DOT and wished the participants all the best in their endeavours. Victor Omondi, DOT Alumni and currently the Information Centres Coordinator gave a speech on behalf of the Nairobits Staff. He acknowledged the partnership with DOT and the work done by the Interns."Not only is DOT a partner, but also an employer" Victor says.

This was later followed by the issuing of certificates to the Participants.DOT Kenya's Steve Ooko assisted by Sylvia Rotich issued certificates to the YIKE Participants. The representatives of the CBO's also helped in issuing the Certificates of the other centres i.e. Maji Mazuri Diligent and KCYP A prayer by Miriam Wambui -a Nairobits Staff ended the ceremony and we headed for some entertainment and snacks. It was nice crowning another lot with certificates after equipping them with skills.
